Terms of Service

The rules for using the WinKlok software and this website.

Acceptance and scope

These Terms govern your use of WinKlok (the “software”), a Windhawk mod by Shifting Whistler (the “developer”), and of this website. By installing or using the software, or using this website, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use them. Our Privacy Policy explains how information is handled and is part of these Terms.

The software and its license

WinKlok is free and open-source software released under the GNU General Public License, version 3 or (at your option) any later version (opens in a new tab). The license, not these Terms, governs your rights to copy, modify and share the code, and nothing here restricts the rights the license gives you. The source is available in the GitHub repository (opens in a new tab).

WinKlok runs as a mod inside Windows Explorer through Windhawk (opens in a new tab), a separate product with its own terms. You are responsible for installing, enabling, disabling and removing it on your own computer.

Google Calendar sync

  • Google Calendar sync is optional. It works only if you connect your own Google Account and approve Google’s consent screen, and you can disconnect at any time.
  • Your use of Google services remains subject to Google’s own terms and policies. You must have the right to access the calendars you connect, including calendars shared with you by others.
  • WinKlok creates, edits and deletes events in your Google Calendar when you tell it to. Those changes are real and are made with your authority, so check what you do. Events deleted in WinKlok are deleted in Google Calendar.
  • Google may limit, change or end access to its APIs, expire sign-ins, or apply quotas. Sync may therefore pause or fail, and we cannot guarantee that it will always be available.

Acceptable use

You agree not to use the software or website to break the law or anyone’s rights; to access calendars or accounts you are not authorized to use; to overload, disrupt or attack Google’s services, this website or other people’s systems; or to misrepresent WinKlok’s origin when you redistribute it. If you distribute a modified version that uses Google sign-in, you must use your own Google Cloud OAuth client and comply with Google’s requirements for it.

Your data and backups

Your notes, tasks, timers, alarms and calendar data are yours. WinKlok stores local data on your PC in Windhawk’s mod storage and does not encrypt it (except the Google sync data, which is protected with Windows DPAPI). You are responsible for your own backups. Do not rely on WinKlok as the only place where you keep important information.

Timers and alarms are conveniences and are not intended for situations where a missed or late alert could cause harm to people or property, such as medication, safety, medical or critical-infrastructure uses. A PC that is off, asleep, busy, muted or running a different Windows configuration may not alert you on time.

No warranty

To the fullest extent permitted by law, WinKlok and this website are provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, accuracy, reliability or uninterrupted operation. Section 15 of the GNU GPL v3 applies to the software. Because WinKlok modifies the behavior of Windows Explorer, it may conflict with other software or with updates to Windows, and it can stop working after one.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the developer and contributors are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for loss of data, events, notes, profits or goodwill, arising from or related to the use of, or inability to use, the software or website, including sync errors, duplicated, changed or deleted calendar events, or missed alarms. Section 16 of the GNU GPL v3 applies to the software. Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded or limited by law, or any rights you have as a consumer under mandatory law.

Third-party services and trademarks

WinKlok is an independent project. It is not affiliated with, sponsored or endorsed by Microsoft, Google, Windhawk, GitHub or Cloudflare. Windows, Google, Google Calendar, Windhawk, GitHub and Cloudflare are trademarks of their respective owners and are used only to describe compatibility. Links on this website lead to third-party sites that we do not control.

Contributions

Bug reports, ideas and code contributions are welcome on GitHub (opens in a new tab). Unless you state otherwise, contributions you submit are licensed under the same GPL-3.0-or-later license as the project. Do not submit anything you do not have the right to share, and do not post personal data, tokens or credentials in public issues.

Changes and discontinuation

We may change the software, the website or these Terms, or stop maintaining them, at any time. When Terms change, the effective date above is updated and the history is visible in the repository. Continuing to use WinKlok after a change means you accept the updated Terms. You may stop using WinKlok at any time by disabling the mod and, if you used Google sync, pressing Disconnect.

General

If a part of these Terms cannot be enforced, the rest stays in effect. These Terms, the GPL and the Privacy Policy are the whole agreement about the software and website. Mandatory consumer-protection rules of the place where you live continue to apply to you.
